Dental Care for El Segundo, CA Residents

El Segundo's 16,769 residents share a zip code with a U.S. Space Force installation, the working heir to a World War II aircraft plant, and a cluster of aerospace employers that has defined the city since long before Los Angeles had a commercial airport. Lennox Dental is a direct drive away.

A City Shaped by Oil and Aerospace

El Segundo was incorporated on January 18, 1917, from land that had been part of Rancho Sausal Redondo. Its name — Spanish for "the second" — comes directly from Standard Oil of California's second West Coast refinery, built after the company purchased 840 acres here in 1911. That industrial origin gave the city its character long before the first suburb appeared.

When Los Angeles Municipal Airport opened north of the city in 1930, aerospace and aviation firms followed. The concentration that resulted is described as a mile-long aerospace corridor, one of the most important aerospace and defense research, development, and production sites in the country. Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin all maintain facilities here, as does the Aerospace Corporation. Los Angeles Air Force Base sits within city limits — it is the home installation of the U.S. Space Force's Space Systems Command, established on August 13, 2021. That command handles research, development, and acquisition of military space systems, supported by roughly 6,300 military personnel, civilians, and contractors on-site and worldwide.

The aerospace lineage in El Segundo goes back further than most people realize. The Douglas Aircraft Company plant here was a major wartime manufacturer during World War II, producing SBD Dauntless dive bombers that saw action at the Battle of Midway. That facility is still in operation today, under Northrop Grumman, making it an active aircraft plant with a continuous history on the same site stretching back more than eight decades.

That combination — an oil refinery origin, a century-old aircraft plant, a Space Force command, and four major defense contractors operating side by side — is not the profile of a typical South Bay suburb. Residents here tend to know exactly where they live and why they chose it.

Who Lives Here

El Segundo is a compact city. The 2019–2023 American Community Survey five-year estimates put the total population at approximately 16,769. The workforce profile stands out: 92.8 percent of employed residents hold white-collar positions, and 37.9 percent of the population have earned a bachelor's degree. The 2024 ACS puts the median household income at $150,737, approximately 190 percent of the U.S. median. Those numbers reflect a community where engineering, scientific, and managerial roles are common — many of them tied to defense and aerospace employers a short distance from residents' front doors.

Work schedules here often follow large campuses and government contract deadlines rather than standard nine-to-five hours. A dental practice that is close by, flexible, and easy to reach matters more in that context. Finding a dentist near home is a practical choice, not an abstract one.
