Dental Care for Lennox, CA Neighbours
Lennox is our home ground: an unincorporated community of about 1.1 square miles in southwestern Los Angeles County, wedged into the South Bay right beside the airport. We treat the families who live along these blocks, and we know the streets they walk in from.
A small, dense community with its own story
Lennox is a census-designated place, not a city. It covers roughly 1.09 square miles in the South Bay, adjacent to Los Angeles International Airport. The 2020 census counted 20,323 residents, down from 22,753 in 2010, packed at about 18,593.8 people per square mile across some 5,519 housing units. That density means neighbours, schools, and small businesses all sit close together, and a dental office is meant to be part of that same short walk or drive.
Today Lennox is over 90% Latino, one of the largest concentrations of Latino residents on the western side of Los Angeles County. Many of our patients are more comfortable speaking Spanish, so we keep a Spanish-language version of our site and staff who can talk through appointments and forms in either language.
How Lennox came to be a pocket
The settlement began as a small farming community around 1905 and was named Lennox in 1912. It was once part of the large rancho owned by Daniel Freeman. By the 1920s Lennox spanned about 7 square miles, with a Pacific Electric railway line running down its center along Hawthorne Boulevard.
Then the neighbours grew. Hawthorne and Inglewood, incorporated in 1922 and 1905, began annexing large portions of Lennox during the 1920s. The Arbor Vitae section along Arbor Vitae Street went to Inglewood in 1924. A further annexation attempt was defeated at the ballot box in 1925. By the early 1930s Lennox held more than 9,000 people on just over 2 square miles, having lost much of its original territory. That is why the community sits today as a distinct pocket among incorporated cities.
Who looks after Lennox
Because it stays unincorporated, Lennox is governed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, Second District, currently represented by Holly J. Mitchell. County services run through the Lennox Field Office at 4343 Lennox Boulevard, Lennox CA 90304, reachable at (310) 680-8601. It is a useful number to keep for local questions that fall outside a dentist's office.
Schools close to the chair
Public education here began in 1910 with a single four-room, wood-frame school and 50 students. The Lennox School District now runs a preschool, five elementary schools, and a middle school, serving preschool through 8th grade, with enrollment reported in the range of roughly 4,000 to 5,600 students depending on the source. The district office is at 10319 South Firmona Avenue.
The airport is a literal neighbour, not a backdrop. The former Lennox High School sat above LAX flight paths and dealt with aircraft noise; that noise led to its 1977 closure, and the campus reopened in 1985 as Lennox Middle School with sound-reducing material. Families raising children under those flight paths are the same families we see for check-ups and cleanings, and we try to make scheduling around school and work as simple as we can.
