At the same time, the median home value reached $653,800 in the 2020–2024 American Community Survey period, up 26.5 percent from the prior five-year estimate of $516,774.
Getting around: the C Line and its connections
The Vermont/Athens Station, at 11603 South Vermont Avenue, gives Westmont a light-rail connection to the broader Los Angeles network. The station opened August 12, 1995, as part of the original Metro Green Line (now the C Line), and sits below grade in the median of Interstate 105. From there, riders can connect to the Metro J Line bus rapid transit service and several local routes, including lines 204, 754, 2, 120, and 127.
A Metro planning study on the Vermont Transit Corridor formally classified Westmont and neighboring West Athens as Equity Focus Communities, noting that these are among the most densely populated areas in the region and carry a significantly higher share of transit-dependent residents than surrounding communities.
Schools and institutions nearby
Los Angeles Southwest College sits at the intersection of Western Avenue and Imperial Highway in unincorporated West Athens, immediately adjacent to Westmont. Founded in 1967 — two years after the Watts riots — it is part of the Los Angeles Community College District, and its service area explicitly includes unincorporated Westmont and West Athens. It is the only community college in South Central Los Angeles, with 5,371 students enrolled in the most recent available count.
Ánimo South Los Angeles Charter High School is located at 11130 S. Western Ave in Westmont, serving grades 9 through 12. Established in 2004 and operated by Green Dot Public Schools, it is one of the few secondary institutions with a confirmed address inside Westmont’s 90047 ZIP code.
