Dental Care for Crenshaw, CA Residents
Crenshaw sits about five miles northeast of our office on Hawthorne Boulevard in Inglewood — close enough to be a straightforward drive, and now also reachable by the Metro K Line that opened in 2022. Lennox Family Dental has been serving this stretch of South Los Angeles since 1993.
The neighborhood
Crenshaw spans ZIP codes 90008 and 90016 and is home to roughly 31,700 residents. The median age is 42.5 — a few years older than the national median of 40.1 — and approximately 58 percent of residents identify as Black. The neighborhood contains two formally designated historic districts and some of the most established cultural institutions in Los Angeles’s African American community.
Metro K Line: rail returns to Crenshaw Boulevard
On October 7, 2022, Metro opened the K Line — also known as the Crenshaw/LAX Line — restoring rail service to an area that had not seen it since the Los Angeles Railway’s Yellow Cars shut down in the 1950s, a gap of roughly 70 years. The 8.5-mile, $2 billion line serves the cities of Los Angeles, Inglewood, and El Segundo and portions of unincorporated Los Angeles County. Seven stations are currently open: Expo/Crenshaw, Martin Luther King Jr., Leimert Park, Hyde Park, Fairview Heights, Downtown Inglewood, and Westchester/Veterans. The northern 1.5 miles run underground; the three subway stations in that stretch are Expo/Crenshaw, Martin Luther King Jr., and Leimert Park.
Trains run every 10 minutes during peak periods and every 12 minutes off-peak; service runs approximately 4 a.m. to midnight. As of March 2026, weekday boardings average 8,866. For a current trip time between any Crenshaw station and our Inglewood office, Metro’s trip planner at metro.net gives the most accurate schedule.
Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza
The commercial anchor of the neighborhood, Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza opened November 21, 1947, at 3650 West Martin Luther King Boulevard (90008). Architects Paul R. Williams and Albert B. Gardner designed the two original anchor buildings in the Streamline Moderne style; when it opened, the complex was one of the first regional shopping centers in the United States built specifically for the automobile. The plaza sits directly adjacent to the Martin Luther King Jr. K Line station. In June 2018, the Los Angeles City Council approved a Master Plan for the site and required that a Historic Preservation Plan be filed before any permits are issued for exterior or interior renovations of the historic Broadway and May Company buildings.
Pan African Film Festival
Headquartered at Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza, the Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) is the largest Black film and arts festival in the United States and the country’s principal Black History Month film event. PAFF was founded in 1992 by Danny Glover, the late Ja’Net DuBois, and executive director Ayuko Babu. It operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and screens work from filmmakers across more than 40 countries on six continents. The festival is Oscar-qualifying for both animation and live-action films.
Leimert Park Village
Immediately east of the main Crenshaw corridor, Leimert Park was laid out by Walter H. Leimert beginning in 1927 on roughly 230 acres, with the Olmsted Brothers designing the central plaza. On May 1, 2018, the Los Angeles City Council formally designated the district as “Historic Leimert Park Village,” with boundaries defined along Crenshaw Boulevard, Vernon Avenue, Leimert Boulevard, and 43rd Street.
Visiting from Crenshaw
Dr. John Cohen, DDS opened Lennox Family Dental in Inglewood in 1993 to bring quality dentistry to a working-class neighborhood. The practice has grown alongside families throughout the broader South Bay and Crenshaw corridor — patients who first came in during the 1990s now bring their own children. The same dentist handles cleanings, pediatric visits, implant placement, orthodontics, oral surgery, and complex restorative work under one roof, without sending patients to separate specialists for most procedures. For a full overview of what the office offers, see the services page.
The office is at 10823 Hawthorne Boulevard, Suite A, Inglewood, CA 90304. Hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Spanish-speaking staff are on duty every day. Same-day appointments are available for dental emergencies — call (310) 412-8013 as early as possible. New patients are welcome. For insurance questions, the insurance and financing page explains what the practice accepts; calling the office is the fastest way to confirm a specific plan.
