Dental Care for Mar Vista, CA Families
Mar Vista sits within 2.9 square miles of West Los Angeles, home to roughly 35,492 residents. It holds the city’s first post–World War II modern historic district, two LAUSD elementary schools, a year-round Sunday farmers’ market, and an 18.5-acre recreation center that has served the neighborhood since 1948.
Deep roots in West Los Angeles
Mar Vista joined the City of Los Angeles in 1927 as its 70th annexed community. The city formally designated it an official neighborhood—with street signage—in 2006. Today, 35,492 residents live within its 2.9 square miles, a density of roughly 12,259 people per square mile, close to the Los Angeles average.
The Gregory Ain Mar Vista Tract
The neighborhood’s most architecturally studied block of homes is the Gregory Ain Mar Vista Tract, completed in 1948. Architect Gregory Ain designed the development with Joseph Johnson and Alfred Day. It was originally planned as 100 homes on 60 acres; 52 homes were ultimately built. The developer advertised them in the L.A. Times as “Modernique Homes,” marketing adaptable floor plans—including sliding panels—to young families seeking modern design at a practical price. The model home stands at 3508 Moore Street.
In 2003, the Mar Vista Tract became the first post-World War II modern historic district in the City of Los Angeles, officially designated a Historic Preservation Overlay Zone (HPOZ). That designation makes it a national reference point for mid-century residential architecture, not only a local one.
Schools
Mar Vista Elementary School, at 3330 Granville Ave, opened in 1947 and serves LAUSD students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Grand View Blvd Elementary, at 3951 Grand View Blvd, opened in 1953 and runs LAUSD’s longest-running Spanish Immersion program—a distinction that reflects the bilingual character of this part of the Westside.
Farmers’ market and recreation
The Mar Vista Certified Farmers’ Market runs every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., year-round, at 3826 Grand View Blvd at Venice Boulevard. It is one of the more reliable weekly gathering points in the neighborhood, drawing residents from across Mar Vista.
The Mar Vista Recreation Center, established in 1948, covers 18.5 acres at 11430 Woodbine Avenue. Its documented amenities include three baseball fields, a basketball court, two gymnasiums, a swimming pool, a roller hockey rink, a soccer field, and six tennis courts—enough variety to serve young children, competitive players, and casual visitors on the same afternoon. The Mar Vista Community Council, certified on August 13, 2002, holds its regular meetings on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center, giving residents a formal channel into city planning decisions. Public safety is handled by LAPD’s Pacific Division and LAFD Station 62, which also covers part of neighboring Venice.
Lennox Family Dental and Mar Vista families
Lennox Family Dental has served the communities west and south of downtown Los Angeles since Dr. John Cohen, DDS opened the practice in 1993. The office is at 10823 Hawthorne Blvd, Suite A, Inglewood—a direct drive from Mar Vista via the 405 or surface streets through Culver City. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with same-day appointments available for dental emergencies.
The practice offers the full range of dental care under one roof: preventive cleanings and exams, cosmetic dentistry, dental implants placed and restored in-house, pediatric care, orthodontics, and oral surgery. A complete list of services is on the services page. For families with young children, the practice is known for making first visits approachable—the pediatric chair is something of a local fixture. Adults coming in for more involved work—implants, full-arch restorations, or reconstructive cases—see Dr. Cohen directly, without the need for outside referrals.
Lennox Family Dental accepts most major PPO dental plans, including Delta Dental, Cigna, Aetna, MetLife, Guardian, United Healthcare, Anthem Blue Cross, Humana, Principal, and Ameritas. The front-desk team files claims directly with carriers and provides a written cost estimate before any treatment begins. If your specific plan is not listed, the office recommends calling ahead to verify coverage before your visit. Details on insurance and financing options, including CareCredit and Cherry, are on the insurance and financing page.
Spanish-speaking staff are on duty every day—a practical fit for a neighborhood whose school district hosts LAUSD’s longest-running Spanish Immersion program. New patients are welcome without a referral. Call (310) 412-8013 or use the contact form to schedule a visit.
Patients from nearby Culver City will find a dedicated page for that area. The full service area directory lists all neighborhoods currently served.
